Flood-deposited mud and silt have disrupted winter-paddy plans across badly affected upper-Assam districts, leading the state agriculture department to push alternative cropping support for nearly one lakh farmers. Officials discussed sesame, pulses and fruit saplings as fallback options in flood-hit areas where the normal paddy window is no longer practical.
